Regional Road Traffic Volumes (AADT)

Summary of the traffic volumes on the Niagara Regional Road System. Each individual Regional Road has been divided into short sections using major intersections as dividing points.

The measurement of traffic flows is a major task and cannot be carried out on a continuous basis, as the cost would be prohibitive. Furthermore, with few exceptions, volumes are relatively stable from year to year. For these reasons each station is counted once every three years, with supplementary counts obtained in rapid-growth areas if required.

During the count year, one full twenty-four (24) hour count is obtained in each of the four seasons and the average volumes calculated using accepted mathematical methods. It should therefore be emphasized that the values given are estimated based on samples.
